When I Consider

Psalm 8:3  “When I  consider the heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained:”

The vastness of space has left me standing in awe many times.  It is most evident on a dark night out in the country.  My husband has always shown an interest in the night sky and for several years our second son kept the family searching the skies for different phenomenon.
A refractor telescope was purchased with which we could see the rings of Saturn for ourselves and watch the eclipse of the moon as it took place.  We have even set the alarm clock to get us up in the middle of the night in hopes of seeing a meteor shower.  Later on, we gathered outside one evening after dark and watched a “light” cross the sky.  The exact time of its arrival and  departure was known because it was our country’s own space shuttle orbiting the earth.  The news reported that the astronauts commented on how beautiful our earth is from space.
The Bible tells us in Genesis 1:16 “And God made……the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.”  Then Psalms 147:4 gives us further details: “He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.”  God not only created the stars and knows exactly how many there are but also has a name for each one.  What a joy fills my heart and what an assurance comes over me “when I consider.”

  1. I love watching the sky, the stars, moon, meteors, etc. too. “In the beginning God…”
