Strength For Today

Deuteronomy 33:25b  “……and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.”

Psalm 118:24 “This is the day which the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it”

What an encouragement these words are to those of us who try to live more than one day at a time.  How unnecessary it is to fret about tomorrow and anticipate what “might happen.”  Our days are numbered, consequently, the Lord carefully promises the strength needed for each and every day.  Please note that this strength is not stored up and handed to us in one big lump.  Just as a baker measures the right amount of flour for each cake——so our Heavenly Father gently measures just the right amount of strength and grace we need each day and sends it on wings of love to uphold us.
When we do err and attempt to carry more than one days burden, the weight becomes unbearable and the tasks appear impossible.  Many times I have arose on a Monday morning to a disorganized house, many dirty clothes, a large pile of ironing and errands to run, and perhaps a sick child.  The task seems impossible and almost causes one to want to give up.  Can we do all the work at one time?  Of course not, but one by one with the Lord’s strength and guidance we carefully complete as many tasks as possible and by the end of the day much has been accomplished.
On a more serious note, perhaps you’re going through an illness, a death in the family or a  financial crisis.  These same words can still be applied.  Take each day as it comes and God will provide the strength.  Worry about the “unknown” will only add stress and unnecessary burden to the problem you already have.  Matthew 6:34b tells us, “Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” We will not be overwhelmed. We are not to add anything more to the day than already exists; for each day already carries enough burdens and trials.  Why add more?  What a weight is lifted from our shoulders.  The same Lord who gives us the grace sufficient for yesterday will also be there with fresh new grace when we start a fresh new day today.  Just thinking on this promise lightens my heart.  Doesn’t it yours?

Thanks for this encouragement this morning. I’ve been discouraged…the judge here is refusing to sign the final adoption papers for our son and his wife to adopt two Haitian kids. They’ve been here over a year now and have adjusted so well but she refuses to sign. I’ve got to stop worrying. I know God is able…

Yes, He is Able. So thankful for what your son and his wife are doing for those children.  What a blessing !  I know the Lord will work all these things out according to His Will. I’ll join you all in prayer for the judge.

Morning Gail, just wanted to thank you for today’s post. It encouraged me greatly. I face that “Monday” morning everyday. I have Fibromyalgia and it seems I’m always “catching up” on my housework and other wifely responsibilities. It’s easy to get overwelmed but your message reminds me that all we really have is this one day. God set that day before us and said the evil thereof is sufficient. God Bless you Gail for building up the church the way you do!
