Good Tidings of Great Joy

The story of Christmas is the story of Jesus Christ’s humiliation.  There are many verses in the Bible that express this and as we celebrate Christmas, the Incarnation of Jesus Christ (God in flesh), I want to share some of these verses with you to read and ponder, that all these things might remain in your heart.

Isaiah 9:6-7

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.”

Romans 8:3
“For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh.”

Galatians 4:4-5
“But when the time had fully come  God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.”

I Timothy 1:15
“Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am chief.”

Romans 1:3
“Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh.”

John 1:14
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

I John 1:1
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;”

Philippians 2:7
“Rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”

Philippians 2:8
“And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

I Timothy 2:5-6
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;  Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

Acts 2:29-30
“Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.  Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne.”

It is amazing to think the God and Creator of the Universe came in the flesh, because of His great love for us. Oh, how our hearts rejoice with thanksgiving for this “Indescribable Gift.”
II Corinthians 9:15.  May we never take it for granted.
