The Better Way

Today’s blog was suggested to me by one of my daughters.  I would like to use it as the theme for this Bible Encouragement For Women blog.  Together we want to seek  “The Good Part”,  “The Better Way.” Using the Bible scripture from Luke 19:38-42, which is the story about Jesus  visiting in the home of Lazarus, Martha and Mary, let’s study together about Mary choosing the “Good Part.”  God’s Word tells us that Martha’s way was not necessarily “wrong,” as she was the hostess and responsible for serving the meal, but according to two of my favorite Bible scholars, Matthew Henry and John MacArthur, Martha was fussing about details that were unnecessarily elaborate.  Luke 19:40 says Martha was “cumbered” ( KJV )  or “distracted” ( NASB ).  “Care is good and duty, but cumber is sin and folly.”  Jesus Christ said, “one thing is needful.”  There is a way of accomplishing our tasks as wives and mothers, but according to Christ we want to be careful to chose “the good part.”

Let us like Martha, fulfill the wonderful, unique, special role and responsibilities God has given us as wives and mothers, but with an attitude like Mary– an attitude of worship and meditation and listening with an open mind and heart to Jesus’ words.  This will keep everything in the right perspective.
